Myth-busting VOL 1: NFTs are just another microtransaction
There’s so much misinformation floating around regarding blockchain gaming that many people don’t have any idea what’s going on.
That’s why we decided to set the record straight & debunk some of the most famous myths through a series of posts.
MYTH VOL 1: NFTs Are Just Microtransactions
First up — NFTs!
It’s often repeated that NFTs are just a new form of microtransactions — but this couldn’t be farther from the truth.
The truth
Microtransactions (skins or items) you buy in traditional games are controlled by the game company, meaning you only pay for the privilege to access them. Furthermore, these items are useless outside the game, so in a sense, they are a waste of money.
NFTs, on the other hand, give true value to gamers. Blockchain gaming is a part of a larger cryptocurrency ecosystem, meaning that each unique NFT can be sold outside the platform it originated from.
That, our friends, is what true ownership in the game industry looks like.
Even though NFTs are visual digital assets, they also play a major part in the gameplay itself. For instance, in Engines of Fury, we have two main types of NFTs: champions and equipment.
NFT champions are your arena fighters & you can level them up, increase their market value, and sell them to the highest bidder. The stronger your champion, the bigger the victories and the better the rewards.

NFT items, such as weapons, armor, and other gadgets, can not only be equipped by your champion to gain attack and offense bonuses but can also be used in many other ways.

They can be traded in a marketplace as well as melted down and converted into our $FURY token.
As you can see, it’s apparent that microtransactions don’t have that much in common with NFTs, besides being items.
Is this the Discovery Channel, ’cause a myth just got BUSTED!
Stay tuned for our next post where we’ll address the common misconception that all blockchain games are boring.
